About Us

Brian and Judy Gilbert are fifth-generation Kiwis and have spent many years working in the hospitality industry (along with many other colourful occupations!).

Having travelled extensively in New Zealand and internationally, we've always loved the interactions with people.

With no intention of sitting still, we have created Ferntown Lodge to offer a real Kiwi experience for New Zealand and international visitors wanting something different.

Brian is the only remaining official New Zealand Sheriff (a warrant from the gold mining era)—but that's a story for around the dining table.
